Press play, listen for “take your mark,” then pause after it is said. It doesn't have to be exact, StrokeLab searches the few seconds after your mark and locks onto the real start signal automatically.
For breaststroke and butterfly, press P at the wall touch, then press P a second time when the feet push off. StrokeLab drops the video to 0.5x between those presses, unless you are already at 0.5x or 0.25x, then returns to your selected speed. This measures the turn and keeps it out of the underwater + breakout time.
Do not worry about being perfect. On the results screen you can re-mark or delete any out-of-place strokes afterward, as long as you do it before leaving the page (the video is not stored).
