Step 1 · Upload video

Start with your race video

Upload the race first. Once it loads, continue into setup.
Waiting for video Upload a file to continue.
Your video stays private while you work. Saved analyses store your timing marks and results, not the original video file.
Step 2 · Set up race

Set the race details

Name the analysis and set the pool, race distance and stroke. You can add official splits on the next step.

Step 3 · Official splits

Add your electronic splits (optional)

If you have the electronically-timed splits for this race, enter them here. These can be found on websites like Swimcloud, Swimstandards, or Meet Mobile. Don't have them? Skip this step.
Know your electronic 50 splits? Enter each 50 on its own, the time for that 50 (e.g. 30.2 then 31.1), not the running total. Leave any blank if you don't have them, or skip the whole step.
Step 3 · Set “take your mark”

Pause when you hear “take your mark”

This just points StrokeLab at the right part of the clip. It only needs to be roughly right, the exact moment doesn't matter.

Listen to the race audio

Press play, listen for “take your mark,” then pause after it is said. It doesn't have to be exact, StrokeLab searches the few seconds after your mark and locks onto the real start signal automatically.

No mark set yet.
Step 4 · Find the starting signal

Pick the start signal

Play the candidates and pick the one that matches the start signal. A few in a row often each catch part of the same sound, so also play the candidate right after your pick and keep whichever captures the start best. If none fit, press None of the above and set the start from first visible movement.

Step 5 · Confirm before video review

Review the controls before you start

Set your playback speed, then start the review once you are ready to mark strokes and turns.

What happens in video review

  • Press R exactly at the end of each stroke.
  • Press P when they finish the length (the wall touch).
  • Press Space or Finish Analysis when the race is complete.
New: breast/fly turns
Press P again at the push-off.

For breaststroke and butterfly, press P at the wall touch, then press P a second time when the feet push off. StrokeLab drops the video to 0.5x between those presses, unless you are already at 0.5x or 0.25x, then returns to your selected speed. This measures the turn and keeps it out of the underwater + breakout time.

Do not worry about being perfect. On the results screen you can re-mark or delete any out-of-place strokes afterward, as long as you do it before leaving the page (the video is not stored).

Last step before results · 15 m underwater splits

Mark every 15 m crossing

On each length, scrub to the moment the swimmer's head passes the 15 m floats and mark it, one mark per length. Not sure where that is?

Re-marking strokes

Re-mark selected strokes

For each selected stroke, scrub to the exact frame the hand enters the water and mark the replacement, or delete it if it should not be there at all. Use the nudge buttons for fine control. Save when you are done and your results update automatically.
